Ridetech introduces a performance subframe for 2nd Gen (1970-1981) Camaro, designed to enhance performance and ride quality beyond factory limitations. Built with innovative features, this subframe caters to enthusiasts seeking superior wheel/tire clearance, suspension geometry, steering, drivetrain compatibility, and braking performance.
Key Features
- Wheel/Tire Clearance
- Addresses pro-touring challenges with 2” additional clearance per side, reducing subframe contact.
- Optimal setup: 18×10” wheel with 6.5” backspace for improved turning radius and tire fitment.
- Suspension Geometry
- Custom pickup points optimize camber gain, caster, roll center, and Ackermann for enhanced handling and ride quality.
- Features one-piece billet aluminum upper control arms and tubular lower control arms with Pro Forged ball joints.
- Compatible with Ridetech coil-overs or Shockwave® air suspension.
- Fox Factory monotube shocks (single, HQ rebound adjustable, or TQ triple adjustable) with 1.834” pistons for fade-free performance and 24-position adjustability.
- Steering Improvements
- Incorporates a Fox-body (1979-1993 Mustang) rack-and-pinion steering system for direct, responsive handling (sold separately).
- Optional short-ratio PSC steering rack (Part # RA33500) available, or use standard racks from other retailers.
- Eliminates the disconnected feel of factory recirculating ball steering.
- Drivetrain Compatibility
- Engines: Supports GM LT, LS, and traditional small/big block Chevy engines via specific engine mount plates.
- Transmissions: Adjustable universal transmission crossmember accommodates manual (Tremec T-56/TKX, Muncie, Saginaw) and automatic (TH350/400/700R4, 4L60/80E) transmissions.
- Designed for flexibility to suit various build goals (street, track, or show).
- Braking Options
- Compatible with stock ‘pin’ or ‘hub’ style spindles; taller Ridetech spindles available for enhanced brake setups.
- Supports Wilwood and select Baer brake systems for pin spindles.
- Tall AFX hub spindles enable C5/C6/C7 Corvette hub and brake package integration for advanced braking performance.
- System Compatibility
- Seamlessly integrates with Ridetech’s F-body 4-link systems, rear axles, and subframe connectors.
- Enhances overall vehicle dynamics for street cruising, track performance, or show applications.
Why Choose Ridetech’s Subframe?
Ridetech’s subframe breaks free from factory constraints, offering a modern, performance-driven solution for 2nd Gen F-body enthusiasts. With improved geometry, versatile drivetrain options, and compatibility with advanced suspension and braking systems, it transforms the driving experience while maintaining compatibility with Ridetech’s broader F/X-body product lineup.
NOTES:
- Pin spindle versions require 1st Gen (’67-’69) F-Body brakes.
Subframe NOT COMPATIBLE with stock 70-81 brake kits.
MUST run Ridetech Hub or Pin Spindle.
Not compatible with CPP or factory spindles (different ball joint tapers).
- Hub spindle allows install of modern C5/C6 Corvette brakes & C5/C6/C7 hubs (hubs not included).
- Subframe NOT COMPATIBLE with stock 70-81 brake kits.
MUST run Ridetech Hub or Pin Spindle.
Not compatible with CPP or factory spindles (different ball joint tapers).
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION:
- Ridetech Subframe Adapter Pucks are required for those running Ridetech 1974-1981 Subframe Connectors (part # SUS-482). For those who haven’t purchased Ridetech subframe connectors yet, with this subframe we recommend using Ridetech 1970-1973 Subframe Connectors (part # SUS-481) regardless of the vehicle year. Doing so eliminates the need to run the Subframe Adapter pucks.
